Spring/Summer Spring Picks

by Kim Amedro

Spring seems to be playing games here in Ohio. However, the bipolar weather didn't stop me from picking up some summer staples and spring trends (pretty cheap too!).

90s Inspired

The 90s are back, baby! Miley forecast the 90s hip-hop trends with all her red carpet looks: crop tops, jersey swag, gold chains and rebel plaid. Rock the plaid two ways: tied around your waist Johnny Depp style and pair them with ripped denim or wear it unbuttoned, over a dress for a softer look. Think "Clueless" stoners, Drew Barrymore, My So Called Life or the classic 90s college gear. Pastels

Mints, soft pinks, even softer corals, and lilac purple all provide a very feminine palette this spring. Oh, and take note on the side tie on the pink t-shirt. You will see that in a ton of stores. It looks great with a maxi skirt, over a maxi dress, or with a baseball tee and high waist shorts.  Mint Shorts, Express | V-neck, Target

Festival Chic + Breezy Boho

This is obviously my comfort zone. I go for prints, flowy-yet-flattering tops and an overall boho vibe. Music festivals have truly become hotspots for fashion and the arts. You will see fringe details and peasant top shapes. Of course, the crop top is still huge this season. Lace has made an interesting comeback. Rather than traditional lace this summer, it's elaborate stitching on gauze or mesh material hitting the racks-- a.k.a "baroque." The "ruffle" top or loose layered top is also in. Urban Cool/Athletic

Basketball jerseys and open knits or "mesh" fabrics are putting activewear back on the runway this year. I tapped into a more stable trend: the bomber jacket. This light weight piece is great for almost any occasion and mixes some function with fashion. It has a great sporty feel when paired with some slip on sneaks or street chic with a blue heel. Get this bomber jacket here.

Rompin' Around

Call me crazy, but I love a good romper. With my short torso and stature, I love the silhouette this particular romper gives me. However, I had a heck of a time finding one that actually flattered my shape. Beware of this trend ladies. It can get ugly real quick! Find the one that truly fits you over the one that "matches your style." Romper, Francesca's

Tribal Prints/Global Look

To be honest, this could also have been put under the whole "90s inspired" section. The Rastafarian-esque striped stitching is a bit of a throwback. But, this denim button up screams spring. I'm so excited to rock it with some dark skinnies! Denim Button Up, Francesca's
